Hair fall, Is it a Serious Problem?

David, one of my patients, came to me the other day with his hair problem. David is a cool, funky guy with lot of attitude and if talking about David, then he is a guy with all coo-to-do attitude. He loves his hair and he is very passionate about various hair styles and all. He used to apply a lot of gels and hair sprays. He changed his hairstyles more than he changed his girlfriends. Well, this is something personal, it is his problem.

“Doctor, I am losing my hair, what to do?” David asked me. Hair loss is a serious problem and everyone knows. David now is losing his hair and his problems are emerging from his scalp.

Nobody knows precisely why this happens, but as you might notice, you would be able to understand that hair loss happens due to many reasons. In David’s case, he smokes a lot, applies gel and other hairstyling products, which are harmful for the sensitive hair.

Hair possesses sensitive tissues and taking care of one’s hair is a really important factor. The thin layer present around the tissues helps in enhancing strength and when care is not taken, then they expand and break, which results in hair fall issue. In order to avoid this problem, you should do the following:

* Apply oil regularly as oil lubricates the tissues and helps in growth
* Avoid smoking as it contains nicotine and harmful tar, which breaks hair
* Chemical products should be shunned
* Do not take stress for anything as the heat grow within the scalp, resulting in severe hair loss
* Comb your hair regularly as combing boosts the blood flow in the tissues

So, what do you think? Will David come out of his hair fall problem? Do you think by avoiding chemical applications, can David regain his lost hair? Should David quit smoking?

Our hair does not grow all together. We see our scalp full of hair and think that all hair is growing. But the truth is different. Hair grows, rests for sometime, and then falls and a new hair takes its place to grow. At any point of time about ninety percent of our hair is growing and the ten percent is either ready to fall or is falling. When we shampoo our hair, this falling hair sheds itself. Everyday we lose about 50- 100 strands of hair. That is perfectly normal. If that is causing any worry to you, stop. That is normal. The best person to tell you if you might be facing hair loss is your hair stylist. Get your scalp examined and find out if hair is thinning from any place or a patch is forming.

So, I think David needs to watch his diet (consume more proteins) and also can try massage his scalp with coconut oil or milk, or try to apply a masque of honey and egg yolk.
