How Great is to be Childish
Today, I was rushing to job. I took a subway, usually it takes me like half an hour to get to my job. As it was in the rush our, the subway was packed with people who looked nervous and concerned about not having an opportunity to drive their own car. I was standing near the wall, when I saw small girl next to me.She is approximately 7-8 years old. She was alone. Her clothes were dirty and shaggy. Nevertheless she was really pretty small girl with huge green eyes, tanned skin and cute freckles on cheeks. As if she leaves on the street. I felt pity for her thinking she is homeless. Suddenly she lift up her up to my. I smiled to her thinking how lucky I am to have great loving parents and how much I love them. I did not have small change to give her and I was thinking how could I help her. As soon as she saw my smile, she smiled back to me with this huge and beautiful childish smile. Then she put her hand in her bag and took off an apple. She gave it to me with the words ‘Take it. It is so delicious.”
I get lost and took it from her laughing at myself on this strange situation. People around us were looking at us with surprise. Me wearing an office style dress and make up (looking like office lady) accepting the apple from the homeless looking girl. I said “Thank you. That is so nice of you.” And she started talking to me like an old friend. Asking me where are I’m going.
It turned out she is not homeless, as she said (I still doubt it judging from her look I think her parents does not care about her). She was going to the Park at the River where her Mom worked. She said she has a lot of friends there and to my great surprise a lot of money too. She said I land money to my friends everyday and they give it back to me with percents. I was wondering at the curiosity of the situation. She was giving me business lessons.
I was talking to her and thinking how great is to be a kid. You can say whatever you want not being afraid of the truth just everything that is on your mind. She asked me why I do not eat my apple. I said I would eat it at work. She said “I hate working. My Mom ask me “Marina why you only think about fun and games?” Me turned out to have the same name. She is also Marina. I replied that is it good she loves fun and games as she is small.
“Yeap, childhood is the only place when we can act like this. When I grow up, I would not have the time for fun and games,” shared with me her life lesson small, but smart Marina when going out of the subway car. She stood up at the platform and waved to me laughing. People in the subway were looking with greater and greater suspicion at me not understanding what two of us have in common. But we were much more alike than they thought.
She reminded me myself in childhood. I was really curious and have no fear talking to strangers. When I was 3 years old, I was entering a bus with my Dad or Mom to kindergarten, I would always ask old ladies “Who will take me on the knees, as I’m too small to stand…” They were laughing and taking me to sit on their knees. On the way to the kindergarten I was telling them my name, address and every other words I knew or singing songs to them. They loved it.
Thanks to you, Marina for making my day and showing how important is to save this small kid in your heart.
I entered my office with a huge childish smile on my face and an apple in my hand.
